Summary

When Caroline Trent is kidnapped by Blake Ravenscroft, she doesn’t even try to elude this dangerously handsome agent of the crown。 After all, she’s been running from unwanted marriage proposals。 Yes, Blake believes she’s a notorious spy named Carlotta De Leon, but for six weeks until her twenty-first birthday, when she’ll gain control of her own fortune, hiding out in the titillating company of a mysterious captor is awfully convenient—and maybe just a little romantic, too。

Blake Ravenscroft’s mission is to bring “Carlotta” to justice, not to fall in love。 His heart has been hardened by years of intrigue, but this little temptress proves oddly disarming and thoroughly kissable。 And suddenly the unthinkable becomes possible—that this mismatched couple might be destined for love。

Another quick, entertaining book by Julia Quinn with likable characters。 This one has more unbelievable escapades than most of the author’s other books, yet it was still really good and highly recommended as light reading。 This is the first in a 2-part series。

Though a typically hilarious read as JQ is known for this one was a bit repetitive by the end。

Falls a little flat I love Julia Quinn novels, always an easy entertaining read but this one felt a little tedious to read。 Although It strays away from her usual plot, no ton or balls which is a nice change。

So many implausible hoops had to be jumped through for the plot to happen。 It was sometimes so painfully predictable i had to take a break。 The romance was。。。umm。。。😑。 I did like the banter they had in the beginning, it made me laugh, but then it got ruined。 I am almost willing to bet my house that the next book in the series is about James and his love interest Carlotta。 Prove me wrong, I won't even check。 ALSO, CAROLINE, SEX CANNOT FIX SOMEBODY, CHANGE OF BEHAVIOUR IS REQUIRED。 So many implausible hoops had to be jumped through for the plot to happen。 It was sometimes so painfully predictable i had to take a break。 The romance was。。。umm。。。😑。 I did like the banter they had in the beginning, it made me laugh, but then it got ruined。 I am almost willing to bet my house that the next book in the series is about James and his love interest Carlotta。 Prove me wrong, I won't even check。 ALSO, CAROLINE, SEX CANNOT FIX SOMEBODY, CHANGE OF BEHAVIOUR IS REQUIRED。 。。。more

Faster pace than some of the Bridgerton books - I enjoyed it!

I love Caroline and Blake。 I love their interactions, their banters, their wits, their personalities- I love everything about them。Caroline Trent, a wealthy heiress who's wanted by many of her relatives due to her incoming fortune [that she'll receive at the age of 20] ran away when her current caretaker's son tried to rape her。 Of course, he failed because we are talking about Caroline here。 Her relationship with the caretaker's son was also amiable, not good nor better, but amiable which made I love Caroline and Blake。 I love their interactions, their banters, their wits, their personalities- I love everything about them。Caroline Trent, a wealthy heiress who's wanted by many of her relatives due to her incoming fortune [that she'll receive at the age of 20] ran away when her current caretaker's son tried to rape her。 Of course, he failed because we are talking about Caroline here。 Her relationship with the caretaker's son was also amiable, not good nor better, but amiable which made her running away easier than she thought。The consequence, or perhaps blessing of it all is that she got to meet the renowned agent of the crown [roll credits] Blake Ravenscroft, who was tasked to capture a spy called Carlotta De Leon。 He mistakes Caroline for Carlotta and then everything boom blasted from there。Oh, she knows how to play with words。 Caroline was so witty, I felt inferior with my incapacitated sense of humor。 She also knew how to get what she wants。Here's how she proceeded to cough all night just to avoid Blake's interrogation。 Which failed, of course, the moment Blake appeared with Paper and Quills。 Don't worry, our Caroline also outwitted the chit by using her right hand。 (she's left-handed you see)(view spoiler)[Tell you? she mouthed。“Write it!” he roared。She took a deep breath, as if preparing herself for some terrible chore, and laboriously began to write。Blake blinked。 Then he blinked again。She looked up at him and smiled。“What the devil language are you writing in?” he demanded。She drew back, clearly affronted。“For the record, I don't read Spanish, so kindly write the answer in English。 Or, if you prefer, French or Latin。”She wagged her finger at him and made some sort of motion he wasn't able to interpret。“I repeat,” he bit off, “write down the exact nature of your relationship with Oliver Prewitt!”She pointed to each collection of scribbles—he was hesitant to call them words—slowly and carefully, as if demonstrating something new to a small child。“Miss De Leon!”She sighed, and this time she mouthed something as she pointed to her scrawl。“I don't read lips, woman。”She shrugged。“Write it again。”Her eyes flared with irritation, but she did as he asked。These results were even worse than before。”Excerpt FromTo Catch An HeiressJulia QuinnThis material may be protected by copyright。(hide spoiler)]I kept giggling。 I kept shouting。 And it increased when the Marquis of Riverdale, James Sidwell, graced them with his appearance。 [he'll be the main character for the next book]He was the almighty third-wheeler in this book that helped pushed Caroline and Blake together。 Blake was reluctant to fall in love with Caroline due to his past love who died because of a mission。 And he completely blamed himself for her death。 James was always there for Blake and I loved their bond of friendship that's already close to brotherhood。 This book isn't all about romance。 It's also about taking the leap and following your gut, especially in dire times。 I loved how James loved the idea of including Caroline in their little team of agents while Blake was totally against it due to his past。 Not that he had any say because they later realized when Caroline rode hard towards her caretaker's mansion, the site where the boys planned to raid, alerted them of the butler who was very close to discovering them, that they needed Caroline there to get the things they need。 I almost cried when Caroline found out that they were planning her marriage。 James volunteered in order to goad Blake into marrying Caroline because Blake was adamant in his refusal。 This was the part where I felt melancholy and rawness in the words uttered by James。(view spoiler)[“Exactly,” James replied。 “She's dead, and you can't go on mourning her forever。”“You don't know,” Blake said, shaking his head。 “You don't know what it's like to love。”“And you know all too well,” James murmured。 “In fact, you've known twice。”(hide spoiler)]Anyway。 It had its cliches but it also had its grace。 If you want a rollercoaster ride full of giggles, laughter, and entertaining banter with the occasional melancholic and lovey-dovey feels-This book should be read by you。I hope I was able to persuade you in reading this book。 If not, then I respect your cup of tea。 If yes, LET'S TALK! OH MY CAROLINE, PLEASE DO TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS。 I am simply WAITING to hear them。 。。。more

Hmm, a little odd that Blake was attracted to Caroline even when he thought she was the Carlotta the spy/traitor and linked to death of his fiancée。 I suppose after you over look this, the action scenes were exciting with some comedy sprinkled in。

I think this is the worst Julia Quinn book I have read。 The idea for the plot was great, but instead of the action and intrigue you would expect from a book about an Agent of the Crown, it mostly contained pages and pages of a man torn with regret about his dead fiancée and a girl falling love with him when he had nothing to give her emotionally - even though he no problem using her sexually? This was a solid read。 Wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever read but definitely wasn’t the worst。I liked the build up to their relationship a lot, it was kind of a slow burn and that’s one of my favourite tropes。

Great bookHe thinks she is a spy and takes her hostage。 But the only thing being taken hostage is her heart。

Man the number of times I laughed during this book totally made up for the horrible descriptions of how people move。

I actually liked this。 Compared to my previous read, this was much better although at times, both the hero and heroine really annoyed me and I felt like slapping both of them。There were some really funny scenes in the book and at times it felt more like a comedy rather than a romance。 Overall, it was an OK book
